"Birdsong began in early 2014 when a tiny goldcrest regularly appeared in a large conifer tree right outside my kitchen window. Fascinated by the way he resembled a ball in the winter and returned in the spring looking so much thinner, I attempted to paint him with as few brushstrokes as possible. I discovered Indian Ink was the most effective material, and taught myself to paint in this style, influenced by Japanese Zen paintings. From this small beginning Birdsong was born."
