    Salt Flower

    £9.00

On hot and calm days, a very thin layer of salt crystals forms on the surface of the salt pan. This is carefully collected by workers who scrape off only the top layer. Once dry, it becomes salt flower – "fleur de sel", "flor de sal". The Salines of Rio Maior, one of the greatest natural resources of the Ribatejo region, have eight centuries of history. They are very deep and extensive rocksalt mines, crossed by an underground stream that feeds a well. The water extracted from this well is seven times saltier than that of the oceans.

Everything you need to grow fresh aromatic herbs on your kitchen windowsill all year round. Your indoor herb garden starts here.

    Contents
A 15x18cm leakproof bag with instructions, clay pebbles, soil and a pack of organic seeds.

    Growing Instructions

    2. Open the packet of seeds, sprinkle a few seeds on top of the soil and lightly cover with approx 0.5cm of soil.
    3. Keep the soil moist but be careful not to over-water (a spray bottle works well).
    4. Cover with the plastic bag and leave in a warm place with natural light but avoid direct sunlight. Check daily to make sure the soil is moist.
    5. When the seeds germinate (7-14 days), remove the plastic bag and keep in a naturally light spot.

    Nelson Carvalheiro

    The Portuguese Travel Cookbook

    £27.00

In this travel cookbook, Nelson Carvalheiro sets out to tell the stories behind the people, the places, the villages, the products and the recipes that make Portuguese food unique. He believes that the culinary heart of Portugal is outside the big cities, so this project focusses only on peripheral Portugal. This is the Portugal that produces its own vegetables and milk, where people cook the way their grandmothers taught them. A Portugal that finds its origins in the nets of the fishermen, in the wood-fired oven, in the farmer's hoe and in the local eateries unknown to tourists.

Packed full of beautiful photography by Emanuele Siracusa and over 50 glorious recipes, this cookbook takes you back to Portugal's culinary roots.

Winner of the 2016 & 2017 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards!

    Chiltern Firehouse: The Cookbook

    £30.00

When the Chiltern Firehouse opened in 2013 it was an immediate success with the restaurant and chef Nuno Mendes’ menu at its heart. Lisbon-born, Mendes draws on influences from his career split between the United States and Europe to create contemporary recipes with an American accent. From the signature crab doughnuts to maple-glazed salmon and frozen apple panna cotta, Mendes delivers recipes of reimagined classics and bold new flavours.

Chiltern Firehouse: The Cookbook brings together not just Nuno Mendes’ recipes; it also delves into the Firehouse’s love affair with cocktails and goes behind the scenes of the Chiltern Firehouse with exclusive photography and stunning design.

'Nuno Mendes is a genius: forget everything else’ Zoe Williams, Telegraph

‘This is London's Best Restaurant. By any criterion you can think of it's one of the most enjoyable restaurant experiences we’ve had anywhere in the world’ Time Out London

Mediterranean Algarve: Tradition, Produce & Cuisine

'Endlessly fascinating, illuminating and useful.' Kevin Gould (The Guardian).

Land of sun, salt, wine, olive oil, bread and fish, situated at Europe’s south-westernmost tip, the Algarve is a place where ancient Mediterranean traditions continue to thrive. This book celebrates and nurtures those traditions, suggesting innovative ways of giving them new life. For several decades, Maria Manuel Valagão has gathered the popular wisdom and millennia-old expertise that shape local cooking. Here she shares her findings, providing context through a study of the Algarve’s history, landscape and gastronomy. Particular emphasis is placed on the anthropological and social aspects of the region’s cuisine, its produce, cooking techniques and food preservation procedures. This magnificent volume thus provides a comprehensive picture of the Algarve’s cultural heritage and culinary landscape, as enhanced by Vasco Célio’s photographic vision and chef Bertílio Gome’s contemporary recipes.
